The
2001 Baseball Team enters the CBC Hall of Fame as the sixth team inducted since its inception in 2009. The Hawks claimed their fourth consecutive East Region title and became the first East Region team in since 1989 to claim an NWAC Championship.
In 70 years of NWAC baseball, they accomplished things that had never been done – and have not been done since. The Hawks set a school record for wins with 39; set an NWAC record for wins by the championship team; NWAC record for team ERA.
Those three records have since been broken, all by CBC teams.
A few records still standing:
- only team to win three consecutive batting titles.
- second team ever to win an ERA title and batting title in same year.
- NWAC record for shutouts in a season - 19 (45% of games played).
- consecutive wins to start a season - 21.
The 2001 edition of CBC Baseball was the first NWAC baseball team to ever be nationally recognized when the Hawks were ranked 9th in the country following the 2001 campaign.
