The Northwest Athletic Conference released the updated plan for the 2020-2021 athletic season. Front and center was the decision to postpone Fall sports to the Spring quarter. In the plan, Volleyball and Men's/Women's soccer will begin the return during February in line with Baseball and Softball. Only Men's/Women's Golf will hold events in the Fall while Basketball will return to activity in early January.
The NWAC's plan featured a 5-Phase outline designed to stagger the return to activity beginning with a Gray Phase and progressing through multiple subsequent phases. Certain benchmarks will need to be reached in order to progress to Games. These changes will push action deep into May with some championships being playing in early June.
Another notable recommendation is the elimination of overnight travel. This more than likely means the CBC schedule will effectively consist of East Region opponents only. Schedule dates and times will be released in the coming weeks.
The announcement is no doubt a positive one for CBC as Franklin County has yet to make it out of Phase 1. A spring start now allows the campus leeway to progress through the Washington State reopening guidelines without the looming threat of losing Fall sports.
