FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 3 Spokane 1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-9)
Columbia Basin picked a good time to turn in their best performance of the year against Spokane at home. Coach
DiShondra Goree's team was firing on all cylinders and gave the NWAC a preview of what they're capable of in the playoffs.
Lucendy Perez lead the way for the Hawks with 12 kills on 26 attacks. Both
Haley Bjorkman and
Tamia Allen-Greggs notched 7 hard hit kills a piece in support.
It was a rawkus crowd Friday night for ASCBC White Out Night as the Hawks gave the crowd all they came to see and more. In an exciting first set, CBC and Spokane went back and forth trading blows down to the wire as the Bigfoot escaped with their only set of the night.
Sets 2-4 were all CBC who looked in complete sync all night. The back row, lead by
Reina Deasy and
Annie Clifton, put Basin in seemingly great position with dig after dig. Following a timeout in set 2 with the score 17-15, CBC rattled off an 8-1 run to finish off Spokane with
Terese Chavez sending the final kill to the floor.
As the match wore on, Basin seemed to get stronger with every point.
Grace Morby and the blockers forced Spokane into 35 attack errors, effectively demoralizing the Sasquatch hitters. Again, the Hawks pounded Spokane in the 3rd set with a 10-5 run to finish off the set behind Bjorkman's swings.
By the 4th set, Basin left no breathing room for Spokane as the crowd pushed the Hawks to the 25-9 win with CBC scoring 9 of the final 10 points in the set. The convincing win pushes CBC back into sole possession of 1st place with a half game lead over Walla Walla. The Hawks are not out of the water yet as they will travel to Walla Walla on Wednesday to face the Warriors in what will be a must-see match.
