FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 4 Wenatchee Valley 0
In what essentially was a tune-up game for the Men's Soccer team, the Hawks outraced Wenatchee Valley early on their way to the 4-0 victory.
Raymundo Mendez lead the way for CBC with a goal and an assist.
CBC suffered their first league loss of the season on Wednesday at North Idaho in a rusty performance but looked to come out focused against Wenatchee Valley. In the 14th minute, CBC fired a shot toward the WVC goal that struck the outstretched arm of the Knight defender leading to a penalty kick.
Johnny Ramirez was able to sneak his shot just past the keeper who had guessed right on his shot but couldn't get his arm down in time.
Mendez and company proceeded to lay 3 more goals on Wenatchee in the next 7 minutes with scores from Mendez,
Alan Barragan and
Alejandro Vega to essentially break the Wenatchee spirit with 64 minutes left to play. It's hard enough to score on the Hawks once let alone try and claw back from a 4-goal deficit.
As Coach
Martin Ramirez began bringing in the second wave of guys on the other side of halftime, keeper
Daniel Puga was able to turn away a couple of strong Wenatchee chances that banged off of the sophomore keeper's hands. After surviving WVC's best punch on the other side of half, CBC swung the play back to the other side of the field narrowly missing on 3 more attempts that either missed the open net or saw the WVC keeper barely get a hand on it.
Kobe Avila and the defense were able to hold on to the shut out for the afternoon as the Hawks settled into the 4-0 victory for their 10th win of the year.
Columbia Basin will host the winner of Highline v. Clark/Lane in the 2v3 game with the winner traveling to Pasco for the 2:15pm second round game.
