Columbia Basin defeated SEU-Puyallup (Motion) 98-67 in a mid-season tune-up for the upcoming NWAC Crossover.
Tyler Kurtz lead all scorers with 25 points on 8-13 shooting from the field. CBC shot 58% as a team in the 31-point drumming of Prep school.
Despite the score, SEU-Puyallup was able to challenge CBC early in the first half as the Hawks frequently subbed different lineups in and out. The Fire cut the Basin lead to just 6 points with 5 minutes to go in the first half. Fortunately the starters were able to build it back to 14 points headed into the half. The Hawks looked to really spread the ball around and create looks through their offense rather than settling for early 3's.
Jase Edwards and
Amar Rivers were able to get to the rim at will as well as create looks for others.
Outside of halftime, CBC hit their stride and put their foot on the gas in transition. After a few turnovers created by the defense, CBC converted in transition lead by Kurtz and Edwards. After only taking two 3-pointers in the first half, CBC was able to stretch it out and hit 5 of 11 from deep in the second half with
Leo Gerardo hitting 3 of 4 from deep.
Ten players logged 10 or more minutes in the ball game which lead to 39 bench points lead by Gerardo's 9. After dropping two in a row on the road, CBC has now come back and won two in a row to push their record to 6-2 on the season. They will face a strong pool of teams in the upcoming Crossover tournament held at Highline College. The Hawks will start out with Shoreline before taking on host Highline and finishing with the Chemeketa storm. They will return to the home court in 2022 on January 8th to take on Treasure Valley.
