FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 17 Wenatchee Valley 14
McKenzie Lowry put together quite the afternoon in the doubleheader sweep of Wenatchee Valley. In the bottom of the first, Lowry hit two monster 3-run home runs on the way to an 11-run inning to open up the day by CBC. Both teams battled back and forth, scoring at will.
Kylie Koszykowski,
Madison Harrell and
Kendra Hart all had multi-hit multi-RBI games to add to the 17-run effort. Wenatchee was able to get within one in the 5th inning 14-13 but
Izabel Stohel drove in
Ashlynn Nixon with a sac fly and Koszykowski sealed it in the 6th with a solo home run.
FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 13 Wenatchee Valley 9
Game two of the doubleheader gave us a much better finish to the day than expected. Wenatchee jumped out to a 6-0 after a 5-run second inning of off starting pitcher
Shaine Madden. Madden was able to hang in there as CBC slowly climbed back into the game. The Hawks scored 3 in the bottom of the 2nd with timely base running and a
Mary Comack RBI. Basin was able to tie it up at 8-8 in the bottom of the 4th after Harrell doubled in 2 runs and Lowry launched another 2-run bomb to center.
Madden dug in and held the Knights to just 1 run in the 5th while CBC came back with one of their own to keep it tied at 9-9. That would be all Wenatchee would score as Madden held them scoreless in the final two innings. Lowry, Nixon and
Alyssa Schwendiman all singled in a run in the bottom of the 6th to push the lead up to 13-9. With Wenatchee threatening in the 7th, Madden got WVC to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
The Hawks return the sweep after losing both in Wenatchee. They will tentatively return to play on Sunday in Moses Lake against Big Bend. Thursday's games at CBC have been postponed due to COVID-19 complications with Big Bend.
