Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball splits home opener with Blue Mountain

FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 2   Blue Mountain 1

The 2021 Volleyball team took the home court for the first time in a year and a half this Tuesday against a tough Blue Mountain team playing their first games of the season. A well paced first set had either team leading by no more than 4 points and came right down to the wire before Tamia Allen-Greggs was able to slam home the final point in the match for the 25-22 win to open it up. Set 2 belonged to the TImberwolves as CBC struggled to get any real momentum going after tying it up at 12-12. In the final set, the Hawks found themselves down 12-6 but answered with 7 straight points to take the lead 13-11 behind 3 kills from Allen-Greggs. Setter Jaiden Blakely dumped an over-the-shoulder tip to seal the match 15-12 giving CBC the win. Allen-Greggs finished the match leading the way with 8 kills.

FINAL SCORE: Blue Mountain 2   Columbia Basin 1

Game 2 of the double-header also came down to the wire in 3 sets. Once again the Hawks fell down early in the first set but were able to claw back in it late and steal one away at the last second with the 25-23 set win. Allen-Greggs again lead the team with 9 kills in the match but Basin did a good job of defending attacks and getting creative with their attacks to find points when they needed it.

Set 2 had CBC up by 4 late but Blue Mountain reeled off an 8-2 run to even the game up 1-1. Haley Bjorkman, CIera and Jorja Hadden each had 4 kills in the match as Coach Goree's bunch did well in spreading it around. The deciding set featured an opening CBC run to push the score to 10-6 early but again Blue came roaring back with a 9-3 run to take it home. Unforced errors were costly for the Hawks who had it in their grasp but a few bad breaks let it slip away.

Despite the loss in the second game, CBC's defense and tenacity gave the crowd something to cheer about in their return to the court. They will look to improve upon their performance this Friday against rival Walla Walla who will travel to the Hawk's Nest to try and avenge their loss to CBC last year. Games will begin at 5 and 7pm.
