Columbia Basin swept a double header against division foe Treasure Valley on Sunday. They reached double digits in both games while dominated the Chukars at the plate but struggled in flashes on the mound.
Freshman
Landon Webb got the win in Game 1 going 5 innings giving up just 2 earned runs and scattering 4 hits. His lone mistake on the day came in the first inning when Chukar DH Owen Vilano rode a fastball into the jet stream blowing out to left for what looked like a 2-run home run. However, CBC appealed to first base claiming Vilano missed the bag on the way by and was subsequently called out erasing 1 run off the board. Webb gave up just one hit following the long ball. Third baseman
Nick Grade also took advantage of the jet stream by riding out two long balls in back to back at bats.
Cody Kehl and
Will Baker each finished with a couple of hits and 3 RBIs a piece. Basin scored in 6 out of the 8 innings for 15-9 win.
In Game 2,
Jonathan Garza II took to ball looking to complete the season sweep. Garza was touched up in the 2nd inning for 4 runs on 4 hits as his command faltered just a little. The righty was able power through the next 3 innings untouched as CBC climbed out of the hole to put him ahead 10-4 before his day was done.
Kirby Robertson finished a perfect 4-4 at the plate good for 3 RBIs.
Tyler Polacek and
Evan Devolve chipped in 2 RBIs a piece in the winning effort. Basin finished the contest with 11 runs on 12 hits while still leaving 12 runners on base.
The sweep pushes their win streak up to 8 games and 11 of their last 12. They'll take on Spokane for a third time this week starting off in Spokane on Thursday before returning home on Sunday for the final 2 games. Spokane handed CBC 4 of their 5 losses on the season but the Hawks will look to return the favor this week.
