FINAL SCORE: Blue Mountain 4 Columbia Basin 3
In an uncharacteristic loss, CBC came out flat against an improved Timberwolves team Wednesday afternoon. Blue Mountain scored early in the match off of a Hawk miscue that resulted in a PK that was initially blocked by keeper
Melissa Aris but had enough spin on it to roll back in the net. Basin was able to tie it up at 1 off of a deep strike from
Shayne Ashe from
Kylee Alvarez. Ashe and company started to pick up steam controlling the pace of play but just missing on good attempts. Blue was able to score off of a CBC turnover just before half to take the lead back 2-1
After half, CBC continued to attack but still not converting. The Timberwolves were able to bend in a corner kick for the direct goal to increase their lead 3-2. In the 65th minute,
Makilie Hernandez got behind the defense and was able to send a beautiful cross to
Jaemyn Sellers who put it away to get back within 1. However, Blue Mountain immediately counter attacked of the inbound and score on a cross of their own to make it 4-2.
Sellers scored again, this time from
Andrea Martell with 7 minutes to go. The Hawks had a few more good looks but again came up with nothing to show for them. Coach Anderson was humble but optimistic in the loss. "Our girls learned today that we have to come out with the same energy every game and be sharp with our communication and execution. I'm hopeful this will give us a spark to get back to being as good as we can be headed into Yakima."
The Hawks will take on the Yaks this Saturday before traveling to meet Spokane on April 14th.
