Diego Gomez's hat trick lead the way for Columbia Basin as the beat Wenatchee Valley 5-1 in league play.
Juan Cruz and
Sergio Gutierrez also scored in the route while
Raymundo Mendez assisted on all of Gomez's goals.
After losing 1-0 at Wenatchee and losing 3 out of their last 4, CBC looked to rebound and get back in the winner's circle and they did just that. The Hawks looked poised and controlled through the entire contest, putting together technically sound attacks and finding the open man in the box.
Sergio Gutierrez struck first for Basin in the 27th minute off a corner kick from
Cristian Sanchez. Both players had just entered the game in a substitution and wasted no time contributing. Gomez scored his first on the day to push the lead to 2-0 going into the half and that's all the Hawks would need.
Mendez and Gomez connected again two more times just outside of half to push the lead to 4-0.
Juan Cruz chipped in during the 68th minute to put the game way out of reach for Wenatchee. Just after Cruz's goal Wenatchee came down and struck back on an impressive shot from Carlos Solis-Viramontes that curved away from keeper
Daniel Puga at the last second. It would be too little to late and CBC cruised to the blowout victory.
The win moves Basin back to .500 at 3-3-1. They will take on Spokane along with the women on Saturday May 8th at home.
