Columbia Basin lost both games of a double header 2-1 against Yakima Valley on Thursday. Yakima scored late in both games to break a 1-1 tie. Both Hawk starters went 8+ innings in the losing effort.
Sophomore
Kirby Robertson turned in 8 innings giving up just 2 runs while going 2-3 at the plate and scoring the only Hawk run. In the top of the 9th, Yakima lead off against Robertson with a triple ending his day on the mound. Reliever
Nick Grade had a chance to work out of the jam but an RBI sac fly gave Yakima the 2-1 lead good for the win.
Game 2 looked much the same as the first with Yakima holding on to another 2-1 lead. Starter Jase Wessels was able to go the distance in the effort scattering 6 hits and allowing just the 2 runs. CBC had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the ninth but back to back strike outs lead to a sharp ground ball that Yakima was able to get to in the hole and make a bang bang play at first to end the game.
Basin will get a second crack at Yakima on Sunday as they travel to the Yaks for another double header and a chance to avenge both losses.Â
