Big Bend defeated Columbia Basin 72-67 on Thursday in a make up game. Basin fell just short of the home victory after the Vikings converted a late three pointer with 15 seconds to go.
Aislin Fiander lead the way for CBC with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting.
Sami Sanders added 15 points off the bench for the Hawks.
Sanders and company jumped ahead early with a big 21 point first quarter. Sanders made all 4 of her shots while Basin forced 6 Big Bend turnovers. Big Bend was able to cut it to a 3 point game at half 35-32.Â
Just on the other side of half, Fiander got hot from the outside scoring 9 of her 18 in the second half. Both teams exchanged leads back and forth through most of the second half as CBC had some uncharacteristic turnovers late in the 3rd that allowed the Vikings to get out in transition.
The Hawks were able to cut a 5 point 4th quarter deficit with 5 minutes to go. Their diamond press forced 4 back court turnovers that lead to easy layins for CBC. After an
Alyssa Agundis driving layin with 30 seconds to go, Big Bend broke through the press and with 15 seconds left, Kaitlyn Callahan sunk the dagger 3 from the corner. Callahan had missed 8 of her last 9 prior attempts from deep. Basin was unable to tie it up on a good look from
Aaliyah Anderson with 8 seconds to go.
The loss bumps CBC back to 5-7 on the year but they will get a chance to avenge an earlier overtime loss to Spokane on Friday at Spokane Falls starting at 5:30pm.
