The Women's Soccer team escaped with a draw on Saturday against Spokane. The Hawks finished the last 25 minutes with just 10 players after a red card sent
Kylee Alvarez to the locker room. Spokane outshot CBC 10-2 but the game was much closer than the stats would indicate.
A very technically sound game from both teams only resulted in a couple of shots that had a chance for both teams. Spokane missed two off the post while CBC had a few of their own just miss the back of the net on the day. As the game began to unfold, both teams played very physical resulting in plenty of fouls. Alvarez picked up her first card on a hard tackle in the second half as Spokane consistently tried to draw the whistle with multiple flops. As Basin kept working through the match to hang in there, the defense thwarted multiple Spokane attacks with sound communication and teamwork in the back line.
In the 59th minute, Hawk defender
Megan Little stole a pass and began to lead an attack before being whipped and thrown to the ground by the Spokane midfielder which resulted in only a Yellow on the play. Alvarez was then shown her second Yellow on a tough call. As she ran in for the attack, a Spokane defender slid in front of her at the last second before a collision resulting in a subsequent Red card.
The Hawks fought through the final 25 minutes with just 10, almost converting a last minute goal on a corner kick but the shot bounced off the wrong side of the post. Neither team would manage a good look in the final 5 minutes of the match and would settle for the 0-0 draw.
The draw holds CBC in second place behind a 5-1-4 Walla Walla team who will host the Hawks on Wednesday in Walla Walla. CBC moves to 4-2-2 on the season putting them 5 points back of the Warriors in the division.
