Columbia Basin defeated Wenatchee Valley 82-76 on Tuesday. The win hands Wenatchee their second loss on the season, both coming from the Hawks.
Tyler Kurtz scored 29 while
Garrett Streufert added 22 and
Jase Edwards had 17.
Wenatchee shot the lights out in the first half behind 21 points from Jaylen Scott who shot 7-7 from downtown in the first half. Despite the barrage, the Hawks held their own and was able to keep it a 7 point game heading into half. Basin did not make a 3-pointer until midway into the second half. Both ends of the court were very physical inside with the officials letting the bigs duke it out inside which was just what this game needed.
Both teams exchanged jabs back and forth early in the second half before CBC was finally able to tie it up at 52. The Hawks' full court pressure began to take a toll on Wenatchee who began to tire out. Slowly but surely CBC chipped away at the Knights building their lead deep into the second half by as many as 7 at one point. WVC was able to keep it close with a few 3-pointers. Scott nailed another 3 to cut the lead to 73-71 for Basin. Kurtz was able to force an off balance shot inside before Edwards was able to get loose on the break for the easy layin. With :44 seconds left, CBC sealed the deal when Streufert blocked Isaac Jones' dunk attempt at the rim. A few late free throws later and CBC walked away with the 82-76 win.
The hawks end the season with a 9-4 record which may not put them in first place but 2 convincing victories over Wenatchee Valley on the season may have some arguing that the Hawks were the best team in the East this year.
