FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 3 Walla Walla 0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-22)
With head coach
DiShondra Goree out for the night on precautions, CBC needed a bounce-back game after their 3-1 loss at Spokane on Wednesday. They came out the gate swinging against the 9-2 Warriors who beat Spokane twice earlier in the month. Lead by
Lucendy Perez's 3 kills, the Hawks had kills from 7 different players in the set win as Basin raced ahead to the early 11-4 lead while the defense closed out the set by forcing 3 Walla Walla errors before
Lindsay Cummings finished it out with a strong kill.
Set 2 saw the Warriors use a 10-3 run to creep ahead 22-18 as Basin sputtered a little on offense with several unforced errors. After a kill by
Tamia Allen-Greggs made it 23-20, the CBC student section began to pump energy into the gym and the Hawks were able to ride the wave with a 4-0 run to steal the set away 26-24.
The highlight of the night came in set 3 with the greatest comeback of the season by CBC. Walla Walla came out determined and focused to throw their best counter punch. The Warriors pounded kill after kill on their way to a 8-0 run to start the set. After a CBC timeout, Walla continued to press and pushed the score up to 17-4 before another CBC timeout was called to steam the bleeding. Outside of the timeout, the Hawks caught their breath and began their comeback. With timely defense and Perez's arm, Basin began to chip and chip forcing the Warriors into wild swings. On the backside of a Walla Walla timeout down 22-17, Basin proceeded to score the final 7 points of the set for the 25-22 win. When the dust had cleared, CBC finished the match on a 15-2 run to stun the Warriors.
The win keeps CBC in a tie for the East Region lead with Spokane at 4-1 (10-6 overall). Following a Wednesday bye, they will return to the court against Yakima Valley in Yakima against the 3-1 Yaks. Basin defeated Yakima in a scrimmage 3-0 earlier in the year.
