FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 2 Spokane 0
CBC paced Spokane to the tune of a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. Both goals for the Hawks came in the first half off from freshmen
Charly Scherbarth and
Camryn Thoreson.
The Hawks came out early in full control of the match. After a sluggish showing last week against Edmonds, Basin was locked in and executed their game plan perfectly. A few early opportunities just missed getting by the Spokane keeper before Scherbarth got loose on the left side for a great strike off a cross from
Cassidie Andrews.
Spokane had no answer for CBC's speed and passing. In the 38th minute, Thoreson got behind the defense in time for
Kassadi Suitonu to find her for the left footed strike in the upper 90.
Thoreson's goal would be all the Hawks needed as
Avery Bond and the back line turned away any attempt that Spokane sent their way. Despite the 2-0 win, Basin had multiple chances that could have broke the game open but would go on to settle for the 2-goal shutout instead.
The win sends a strong message to the East Region that CBC will be a matchup problem for teams with their speed on the perimeter and solid back line. They will look to take control of the East with a Wednesday matchup in Ontario against Treasure Valley.
