Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Defense comes up big for Women's Soccer in 1-0 shutout

Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla 1-0 for the season sweep of the Warriors. Alexis Olivas scored the lone goal off a rebounded shot from Camryn Thoreson.

Despite the close score, CBC outshot Walla Walla 14-8 on the day with some narrow misses. In the first half, The Hawks converted their first corner kick on the Olivas rebound to pull ahead early. Both teams had timely defensive stops on quality attacks. Good possessions were few and far in between as both back lines turned away multiple attacks before they could amount to anything.

In the second half, Jayauna Keister took her usual turn in the net for the Hawks who have frequently rotated keepers all season. Despite only playing one half, Keister made multiple game saving plays with her anticipation putting herself in the right place to make a couple of big saves.

The second half was very quiet as the ball spent most of the 45 in the middle third. Basin had a few point blank looks but were unable to get a good foot on the ball. Despite the defensive slugfest, the Hawks were able to pull out the 1-0 victory.

The win moves CBC to 10-0-1 on the year (8-0-1 in East Region play) still in sole posession of 1st place. Due to a Treasure Valley forfeit, they will return to the home field on October 15th to take on Yakima Valley in the second leg of that matchup.
