Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla 2-0 behind goals from
Raymundo Mendez and
Johnny Ramirez.
After a couple surprising losses in the middle of league, the Hawks are back on track with back to back wins, today over the Warriors. Early in the 1st half, CBC struck first with a rebounded goal from Mendez off the
Gabriel Delgado header that was blocked right to Mendez. The Warriors were able to use their size on the back and front to put together some good attacks but the CBC back line was ready to take them on. Both sophomores
Kobe Avila and
Jesus Silva were instrumental in the deterring of chances all game.
The second half feature more defensive play as the Warriors were again able to build some attacks but were turned away at the door. Basin also had opportunities in the box but just seemed one foot away from being able to get off a quality shot. As the half wore on, Mendez and Ramirez kicked it into high gear. In the 83rd minute, Mendez found Ramirez loose in the box and Ramirez was did what he does best and put away a clean look in the lower 90 for the second goal of the game on the way to the 2-0 final.
The win keeps CBC on pace with Blue Mountain who had a bye today. The Hawks are now 6-2 in region play giving them a 2 point lead over the Timberwolves still with 4 games left to play.
