Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Heath scores 31 in big win over Pirates

Columbia Basin defeated Peninsula 89-75 on the second day of the CBC opening weekend tournament. Lexie Heath lead all scorers with 31 points on 12-16 shooting. Post Falls running mate Trinidie Nichols added 14/7/7/7 in support.

In their first big tester of the season, Peninsula presented an opportunity to prove how tough this team would be. The Pirates came out of the gate on an 8-2 as their physicality seemed like it may be a problem. Heath and the Hawks said don't worry before proceeding to reel off a 25-5 run to close out the quarter with a 14 point lead.

Peninsula did all it could to protect the paint but both Heath and Nichols consistently went wherever they pleased which set up outside shooters for easy looks for Basin shooters. Ali May was hot in the first half scoring 12 of her 19 on the night.

The second half featured much of the same as CBC was the more physical team on both ends of the court. Nichols tallied 7 steals and 7 assists in the contest as she methodically controlled the tempo and made the right basketball play over and over. The 3 guard trio of May, Nichols and Heath combined to score 64 of the team's 89 points on 24-36 shooting.

The win moves CBC to 2-0 to start the year. They will head to Walla Walla on December 2nd to take on SWOCC and Tacoma in the Warrior Classic before returning home to host the December CBC Invitational on the 9th and 10th.
