Hawks top Cougars with late run 88-80

Columbia Basin defeated the Northwest Cougars on Sunday 88-80. In a last minute replacement for Fairchild AFB, the NW Cougars were able to hang around with physical play but CBC's athleticism was too much in the end.

Both team did not come out shooting the ball very well. The Hawks were able to run their offense into open looks but the rim would not let anything in. Bobby Siebers hit a pair of 3's to give Basin an early 17-11 lead but NWC came back with a few layins inside to keep the pace in their favor. Siebers and sophomore Teagen Hoard each score 8 in the period but it was CBC who trailed at half 36-39.

Outside of half time, the Cougars got hot from deep hitting 5 from down town keeping them just ahead of a surging CBC team. With increased ball pressure and active hands, the Hawks were able to force 11 turnovers in the second half while Ta'Veus Randle and Jayden Martinez combined for 26 points on 11-11 shooting. Basin was able to grow their lead to as many as 16 with 5 minutes to go. NWC made a late push but it wouldn't be enough as a couple of lay-ups from Martinez sealed the deal in the 8-point win.

CBC moves to 2-0 on the year. They will head to Walla Walla on December 2nd to participate in the Warrior Classic against Bellevue and then Tacoma on December 3rd.
