South Puget Sound outlasted CBC in Pasco by a score of 59-55.
Lexie Heath lead the Hawks with 15 points while
Emma Maxwell and
Trinidie Nichols each poured in 9.
Fresh off their two wins in the Warrior Classic, CBC looked to keep the momentum going in front of the home crowd. It was the Clippers that struck early with a 17-15 lead after one quarter. Despite the deficit, the Hawks were able to get their offense going in the second while using a few transition buckets to take the lead back by as many as 13 in the period.Â
Outside of half time, the turnovers started to creep up for Basin as SPS began to apply full court pressure. The active hands and chaotic flow to the game began to work in favor of SPS as the Hawks struggled to get their offense going. With 1:40 left in the period, the Clippers tied it back up at 35 and would take a 42-37 lead into the 4th.
Basin roared right back in the 4th with a couple of made shots to take the lead back at 47-46 but 3 offensive put-backs for SPS gave them a 54-51 lead with 2 minutes to play. The Hawks were unable to answer as the Clippers sank 3 of 4 free throws in the final minute to hold on 59-55.
The loss sets CBC back to 4-1 on the year. With Everett unable to travel to the tournament, the Hawks will have to wait until the Grays Harbor crossover tournament to climb back in the win column. Their first game will be against the hosting Chokers with tipoff set for 7:00pm.
