North Idaho defeated Columbia Basin 65-42 on Wednesday as Hawks stumble in 4th quarter.
Emma Maxwell lead all scorers with 17 points while
Ali May added 10 of her own.
Another great start for CBC had them in position to go toe to toe with North Idaho all night. Both teams traded buckets as North Idaho's game plan seemed to be 40 minutes of full court pressure trying to force the Hawks into turnovers. After an even 1st quarter, Basin shot 9 or 13 from the floor in the 2nd for a scorching 21 points. May scored 9 of her 10 in the period as the Hawk backcourt seemed to be trending will with the NIC pressure.
On defense, CBC communicated well on switches and forced the Cardinals to use the majority of their 30 seconds on every possession. Heading into half, CBC lead 30-26.
As good as they were in the first half, the Basin attack went ice cold in the 3rd shooting just 1 of 10 from the floor but making 5 of 6 from the free throw line. The pressure began to take its toll as the minutes racked up for
Kiana Lizardo who had to sit down for the majority of the half with undisclosed injury. This forced the Hawks to pivot on offense and they couldn't find any continuity heading into the 4th.
The Cardinals continued to pressure and run out on the break. Although they weren't forcing turnovers, the Hawks seemed to be on the defensive as NIC went on a little run to extend their lead to 15 with 5 minutes to go. Lizardo was able to return to the game but it was too little too late. This time, it was 2 of 14 from floor but all on good shots by the offense.
The loss brings CBC to 3-5 in the East Region and 7-11 on the year. They will hit the road for a 4-game roadtrip beginning this Saturday at Yakima Valley starting at 5:30.
