Columbia Basin split their opening double-header of East Region play with Wenatchee Valley. After dropping Game 1, the Hawks roared back with a strong performance in Game 2 behind an outstanding performance by
Amanda Brown in the circle.
Game 1:
CBC struggled early against WVC starter Taylor Files who was able to hold the volatile Basin lineup down. In the bottom of the 1st, CBC struck early with a Sac Fly from
McKenzie Lowry to make it 1-0. Wenatchee came back with a couple of runs in the 2nd and 3rd to go ahead 2-1.
Basin starter
Macao Jackson, who's been steadfast in the circle so far this season, struggled with her command as the Knights sat on her fastball. In the top of the 4th, Wenatchee exploded for 6 runs as Jackson handed the ball over to
Johnna Overby. Overby was able to get out of the jam with just 1 run as Wenatchee pulled ahead 8-1.
Harley Raymond registered the only CBC hit of the game with a 4th inning double but the Hawks were unable to get anything going. A 3-run home run for the Knights put the game out of reach in the 5th for the final of 11-1.
Game 2:
Game 2 was much better than Game 1.
Amanda Brown took the ball and turned in a spectacular performance. In the top of the 2nd,
Jaelynn Proctor lead it off with an RBI double that brought home Raymond.
Keena Kay, Lowry and Raymond all drove home runs in the 3rd to make it 4-0 CBC.Â
With help from great defense plays from
Madi Olson and
Ashlynn Nixon, Brown was able to locate all of her pitches and shut down Wenatchee. Capitalized by back-to-back strikeouts in the 4th, Brown faced just 1 batter above the minimum- who reached on a throwing error.
Josie Phillips put the finishing touch on an 8-0 win with an RBI single to right field in the 5th. Her 3rd hit of the game, Phillips took an outside fast ball and drove it through the 4-hole into right field that brought around Olson for the final run of the day.
The split moves CBC to 7-6 on the year and 1-1 in East Region play. They will travel to Yakima Valley on Saturday to take on the Yaks.
