Columbia Basin won a pair of games against North Idaho by a score of 8-7 and 11-2 on Saturday.
Game 1:
Hoping to continue their winning streak against North Idaho, the red hot Hawks came ready to play.
Kaitlyn Montgomery started in the circle and turned in a gritty performance for the win. After giving up 2 runs in the second and third inning, CBC roared right back with 3 runs in the third to tie it up at 4-4.
Harley Raymond doubled in 2 runs before Kendra hart was able to bring home Raymond on a fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Ashlynn Nixon connected on a high fastball that brought home
Kylie Koszykowski and
Faith Thomas. Nixon later scored on a single from
McKenzie Lowry to make it 7-4 CBC. Montgomery was sturdy on the mound and never gave up a big inning to a power hitting NIC lineup.Â
Hart later homered in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-5 before
Macao Jackson came on for the two inning save. North Idaho briefly looked poised to make a comeback but Jackson was able to get out of trouble with the lead heading into the 7th. A couple of quick outs by Jackson negated a Cardinal double as Jackson was able to get the swinging strikeout for the 8-7 win.
Game 2:
After an 8-7 thriller in Game 1, Basin made sure to put their stamp on the day in Game 2. Hart and
Madi Olson both doubled in a run in a big 4-run first inning to leap ahead 4-0. Again in the second, the Hawks scored 4 more highlighted by Lowry's 2-run opposite field home run. Olson again connected for an RBI double as CBC began to roll up 8-1.Â
Starter
Amanda Brown went just two innings of 1-run ball before handing the game over to Jackson who was magnificent for 3 innings. North Idaho was unable to get to Jackson except one unearned run in the fourth.
Koszykowski doubled in
Kobbey Smith to kick off the third inning. Nixon then doubled in Koszykowski to push the lead to 10-1. Lowry plated Hart with an RBI fielder's choice for the final run of the 11-2 romp.
CBC connected for 22 hits on the day with multiple hitters logging at least 4 hits a piece. The wins move CBC to 7-1 in East Region play and 13-6 on the season. They will travel to Big Bend on Tuesday to try and keep the winning streak alive before traveling to Walla Walla on Saturday for the showdown against the 14-2 Warriors.Â
