Nixon's 4 homer day lifts Hawks over Bigfoot

Columbia Basin swept Spokane in a Friday double-header to move to 5-1 in East Region play.

Game 1:

Fresh off her NWAC Player of the Week award, Amanda Brown took the ball for the Hawks in game 1 of the day. She got some early run support as CBC scored in every inning of the game.

Ashlynn Nixon belted her first homer of the day in the first. A 2-run shot that brought home Kylie Koszykowski. Basin plated another run in the 3rd by capitalizing on a Spokane error.

This time, there would be no shut out from Brown but she was able to scatter 7 runs from the Sasquatch with run support. McKenzie Lowry singled in 2 runs in the bottom of the third before Mary Comack connected for a 2-run bomb to center giving CBC the 7-2 lead.

Madi Olson and Faith Thomas each singled in a pair in the bottom of the 4th giving Brown more run support. A couple of sac flies in the 5th padded the lead to 11-5.

Olson smacked a solo shot in the 6th for the final CBC run of the game which was enough for Brown to close Spokane out in the 7th for the final score of 12-7 and the CG win.

GAME 2:

In the second game of the day, both teams battled back and forth in a slugfest. Spokane started off the game with a 7-run first inning forcing Basin to change pitchers much earlier than expected.

Nixon again homered to lead off the scoring for the Hawks, this time bring home Keena Kay. Spokane scored another in the 2nd to push their lead to 8-2.

In desperate need of a big inning, the Hawks were able to get one in the fourth scoring 7 runs to go ahead 9-8. Kobbey Smith lead it off with a 2-run home run halfway up the trees in left. Koszykowski struck next with an RBI double followed by and RBI double from Nixon to make it 8-6. Harley Raymond singled in two while Olson doubled in Raymond for the go-ahead run.

Spokane came right back with a 5 run 5th inning off of Macao Jackson who had been solid in relief up until that point. The Sasquatch score one more in the top of the 6th to make it 14-9.

Staring defeat in the face, CBC again retaliated, this time with a whopping 9-run sixth. This time, Nixon lead it off with a solo shot. Jaelynn Proctor singled in Lowry before Smith doubled home two more to make it 14-13 Spokane. With the bases loaded, Kay laced a triple into the left center gap that cleared the bases to make it 16-14 CBC. Nixon put the finishing touches on the inning with another 2-run home run, her second of the inning and 4th of the day.

Katey Montgomery pitched 2 innings of relief as the winning pitcher of the game after getting the 3rd out just before darkness set in.

With the sweep, CBC moves to 11-6 on the season and 5-1 in East Region play. They will turn around on Saturday playing host to North Idaho in their first real test at home.
