Columbia Basin split a pair of games in a three way day against Chemeketa and Bellevue. After dropping game 1 to Chemeketa, CBC turned around and edged Bellevue 5-1 in the third game of the day.
Game 1:
After taking a pair of wins from Chemeketa on Saturday, it was the Storm who emerged victorious in Game 3 of the weekend 9-0. Starter
Cole Pearson was able to get through 4 innings strong before he ran into trouble in the fifth.
The Storm capitalized on a couple of CBC miscues on defense with 2 extra base hits.
Kyle Baumgardt did his best to get out of the jam but when the frame changed, Chemeketa held a 6-0 lead.
CBC could not get anything going all game on offense but was able to get plenty of balls in play that were unable to find holes. Chemeketa added 1 more in the eight and 2 in the 9th to go on to the 9-0 win.
Game 2:
In need of a good performance heading into league play, the Hawks were able to get it. Stater
Sebastian Munoz had his breaking ball working early and often while keeping a talented Bellevue team at bay.
Basin struck first in the first.
Payton Kallaher lined a fastball into left field that plated
Steven Meier. Munoz allowed just 3 hits in 6+ innings of work but was tested in the bottom of the 6th after two Bulldog runners reached base on errors. Bellevue was able to get 1 across on a single but with the bases loaded, Munoz induced a ground ball double-play turned by
Brayden Mayencourt and
Isaac Haws to get Basin out of the inning.Â
The Hawks were able to come right back with 2 of their own in the 6th including a moon shot solo home run from Kallaher.
Alex Rodriguez then singled in Haws to push the lead to 4-1.
Brooks Rasmussen plated the final run of the day with a sac fly in the bottom of the 7th.
Cameron Soliz pitched 2 scoreless in relief with 4 strikeouts before
Brady Toth was able to close it out in the 9th for the 5-1 win.
