Columbia Basin defeated Treasure Valley in convincing fashion 94-66. The win helps place the Hawks in the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Carson Cloaninger lead all scorers with 20 points while 4 other Hawks scored in double figures.
Straight out of the gate, CBC came ready for a quick up and down game and on their first possession Cloaninger found
Amar Rivers for a backdoor lob and slam for the opening bucket. The Hawks continued to play free and open on offense as the ball spent no more than two seconds in each players hands. Treasure Valley did their best to try and keep up but staunch defense from Basin kept them to just 33 points in the first half.
CBC frequently rotated in their bench and were able to get productive minutes from the likes of
Nick Gutierrez,
Christian Cross and
Leo Gerardo. As the half wound down to a close, the Hawks went on a 10-0 run to pull ahead 52-33 entering halftime.
At the start of the second half, the outside shooting began to fall early and often for Basin. They converted 6 of 11 from deep in the second half with Cross and Gerardo each making a pair. Sophomore big
Garrett Streufert dominated the paint inside while the Hawk backcourt found open shooters on almost every possession.
Treasure Valley was never able to cut the lead below 18 in the period and as they began to sputter, Basin got stronger. The lead grew to as many as 32 before setting in for the 94-66 victory.
The win moves CBC to 9-6 on the year which puts them currently at the 2nd seed from the East. A Spokane loss on Saturday will clinch that 2-seed for the Hawks who will finish off the regular season at Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday March 9th.
