Walla Walla defeated Columbia Basin in a pair of double header games on Tuesday. After surviving an outstanding performance from
Amanda Brown, the Warriors clipped the Hawks in game 2 13-5.
GAME 1
Tasked with shutting down the best offense in the NWAC, Brown turned in the best performance against the Warriors this season. In the bottom of the 1st, Basin was unable to convert an early hit from
Kylie Koszykowski as Walla was able to get
McKenzie Lowry to chase a rise ball up in the zone.Â
Brown spent the first 4 innings keeping the Warriors off balance at the plate holding them to just one hit. The Hawks were able to get some help in the field with big catches by Lowry in center and
Josie Phillips in left. In the top of the 5th, Walla Walla was able to draw a two-out bases loaded walk off of Brown for the first run of the game. The Warriors were able to get some insurance with a home run in the 6th to make it 2-0.
Despite her gritty performance, Brown surrendered 3 runs in the 7th as Walla was able to connect on a few base hits to put the game out of reach at 5-0. Basin could get nothing going at the plate against Haley Brown from Walla as the starter was able to get the 7-inning shut out in the pitchers' duel.
GAME 2
Hoping to get some momentum going in Game 2, CBC came out swinging. After getting down early, the Hawks scored two in the bottom of the 1st with RBIs from Lowry and
Harley Raymond to make it 3-2.
However, the Warrior bats were a little too much as they were able to put together a 5-run and 3-run inning to stretch the lead to 11-3 after three innings.
Kobbey Smith was able to connect on a fast ball in the 3rd resulting in a towering home run to left but Basin couldn't sustain momentum.
In the bottom of the 5th, Lowry just missed a 3-run home run by 3 feet as the center fielder was able to snag the drive just shy of the wall in center. The Hawks would add another run on a Warrior miscue but it wasn't enough as Walla Walla was able to hold on to their 8-run lead for the final of 13-5.
CBC will get a chance to rebound with a home double-header against the Big Bend Vikings at home on April 26th.Â
