The CBC softball team split their Friday double header against the Yakima Valley Yaks, taking the second game of the day 5-1.
Â
GAME 1
Â
Basin came out hot early in the ballgame with two early runs in the 1st inning.
McKenzie Lowry drove in the first run with a deep sac fly that scored
Kylie Koszykowski.
Harley Raymond followed it up with a line drive single that plated
Ashlynn Nixon.
Â
Basin followed up in the 2nd with three doubles in a row from Koszykowski, Hart and Nixon to add 3 more runs and a 5-1 lead.
Â
Yakima was forced to go to the bullpen as it turned out to be the right call. The Yaks scored six in the top of the 4th to pull ahead 7-5 and would not look back.
Â
Macao Jackson was strong in relief, allowing no runs on 3 innings of work but Basin could not rally. The Hawks were unable to get runners in scoring position and would go down for the 8-5 loss.
Â
Â
GAME 2
Â
After three strong innings in Game 1, Jackson took the ball again in Game 2 and turned in a quality start.
Â
The true freshman went the distance allowing just one run in 4th while scattering 6 hits.
Â
Basin again struggled at the plate converting just one run through 4 innings when Hart tripled to left.
Â
The key moment of the game came in the 5th while tied at 1-1. After the Hawks loaded the bases they were unable to convert as the next two batters struck out. With a 2-2 count Lowry belted a towering shot to left that just made it inside the foul poll for a grand slam. The homer gave Jackson a big 5-1 cushion which was 3 more than she needed.
Â
The Yaks proceeded to go down with little resistance as Jackson struck out the final hitter for the complete game 5-1 victory.
Â
The split keeps CBC locked in a tie for 7th place in the RPI rankings with Everett. They will travel to Wenatchee Valley on Sunday to take on the Knights in the second leg of the 4-game series starting at 12pm.
