Treasure Valley defeated Columbia Basin in a pair of Saturday games to split the season series at two games a piece. Even with the two losses, CBC has qualified for the NWAC championship tournament in Spokane.
GAME 1
Treasure Valley came out early swinging the bats to the tune of an early 3-0 lead after 3 and a half innings. A normally loud offense was held quiet in the first half but it was
McKenzie Lowry who opened things up for the Hawks in the 4th with a 2-run bomb to left field.Â
After watching their lead slip, Treasure Valley was able to plate 5 runs in the 5th which would ultimately be the difference in the game. In the bottom of the frame, it was
Kendra Hart's turn to connect on a fastball that she sent sailing over the wall for two runs. Again, Treasure was able to keep the damage to a minimum on the frame holding CBC to just the two runs.
Kylie Koszykowski notched a home run of her own in the 7th to cut the lead to 10-6 but the Chukers were able to close Basin out with 3 straight outs leaving the score at 10-6.
GAME 2
The bats came alive in Game 2 for the Hawks who finished with 16 hits in the contest. However, Treasure Valley was again able to minimize the damage only allowing 6 runs.Â
The Chukars again found themselves ahead early off of a few extra base hits. Meanwhile, Basin was able to get baserunners but couldn't find the big hit. In the 3rd, they got three big hits in a row as Lowry,
Harley Raymond and
Rylee Desautel posted doubles to get within one run at 4-3.
In the 4th, Koszykowski hit her second home run of the day followed shortly by a game tying single from Lowry. Koszykowski finished the afternoon 6-8 at the plate including a 4-4 game in this one.
Treasure posted another big inning in the top of the 5th with five runs on 3 hits. With their last chance in the 7th, the Hawks were able to load the bases with two outs down 9-6 but couldn't scratch any more across as the Chukars survived with a 9-6 final.
Columbia Basin finishes the regular season at 30-17, a fantastic year for the Top 5 NWAC offense. Coach Califano's bunch will head to the NWAC Championships in Spokane and look to compete for an NWAC title starting on Thursday May 19th.
