Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla for the 6th time this year by scores of 5-3 and 7-0. The wins improve CBC's win streak to 10 games heading into the post season. Sebastian Munoz turned in 6 innings of no-hit baseball on his way to the Game 1 win.
GAME 1
For the first time since they've implemented it, CBC gave up 3 runs in the first inning. All three runs were unearned as the defense committed a 2-out error that lead to the eventual 3-spot for the Warriors. However, that would be it for Walla Walla on the day as the Hawk pitching staff threw 17 straight innings of shutout baseball.
In the bottom of the 1st, both Nick Grade and Will Baker singled home a run to cut the lead to 3-2. Baker again singled home another run in the 3rd to tie the game up at 3 runs a piece. Once Munoz took the mound, Walla Walla would have no threats. Munoz faced just one batter above the minimum as the righty finished off the final 6 innings with no hits and just one walk.
Brooks Rasmussen plated the go-ahead run in the 4th with a single of his own. Rasmussen has moved up to 3rd in the NWAC with 41 RBIs on the year.
CBC would get some insurance in the 8th as Evan Bayless connected on a fastball for a 2-out RBI single increasing the lead to the eventual final score of 5-3.
GAME 2
There were no mistakes from the pitching staff in Game 2 as Jase Wessels and Cole Pearson combined for the 4-hit shutout. Wessels scattered four hits in his five innings of work.
A big 4th inning saw CBC score six runs on four hits capped with a 2-RBI single from Alex Rodriguez. The six runs were more than enough as Pearson took the ball in the 6th and only allowed one baserunner on a misjudged ball in the Basin outfield.
Hunter Tiffany earned himself an RBI sac in the 8th followed up by an RBI single from Brayden Mayencourt to give Basin an 8-0 lead heading into the final frame where Pearson shut the Warriors down in order to finish off the regular season.
With Big Bend losing both games to Yakima Valley on Saturday, CBC will travel to Pierce or Lower Columbia as the 4-seed where they will face either Edmonds or Bellevue in a loser-out game with the winner moving on to the next round. Basin finishes the regular season with 35 wins tied for best in the NWAC with Tacoma who the Hawks defeated in both games of their double header.
