Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Thoreson's goal lifts Hawks in 1-0 over Bigfoot

Columbia Basin defeated Spokane 1-0 in a battle of unbeatens and sole possession of 1st place in the East Region. Camryn Thoreson scored CBC's lone goal on a 25 yard strike from Alexis Olivas.

Spokane and CBC came into the game tied at 4-0 in the East and you could see why today. Both teams were defensively stout the entire match with neither team giving up many opportunities. In the 11th minute, Olivas got the ball in the middle of the Spokane defense before sliding it over to Thoreson who stopped it, wound up and fired a long strike that just made it over the keeper's head for the lone goal of the game.

Early in the second half, the Hawks began to show a little fatigue as the physical back line of the Bigfoot tried to impose their will on the game. However, Basin's defense dug their heels in and made sure nothing came close. Lead by the great play of Ha'lia Kalehuawehe, the Hawks weathered some yellow cards but never broke. Spokane could only muster a couple of strong chances but sophomore keeper Kylie Patocka was able to corral anything that came her way.

The win helps CBC stay undefeated on the year at 8-0 with a 1-game lead in the East. They will travel to Pendleton to take on Blue Mountain in the second leg of the season before meeting up with North Idaho.
