Columbia Basin defeated Spokane for their 4th win in a row 63-55. Makenna Brandner had 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench while
Lexie Heath and
Mickayla Robertson were each in double figures.
CBC was slow on the offensive end to begin the night but were able to use their defense to keep them in the game. Heath scored 7 of her 12 points in the first on 3-5 shooting to give Basin a 13-10 lead after the first.Â
During the second, they were able to keep their slim lead thanks to some timely free throw shooting from
Kenzi Pedersen as Spokane was able to get into the paint for a couple of good looks at the rim. Spokane took a brief lead with 2 minutes to go in the period but a but a 9-0 run capped by two free throws from Brandner helped the Hawks take a lead into half.
Basin turned up the full court pressure in the Third creating 6 turnovers in the back court that lead to easy buckets. Six different Hawks scored in the 19 point period as CBC watched their lead climb to as many as 12.Â
Some untimely calls helped Spokane close the lead as Basin called a timeout hoping to influce the 5-0 foul count back in their direction. Right out of the timeout, Heath nailed a three to push the lead back to 52-47. From there, a
Trinidie Nichols and-1 would be enough to carry CBC as she and Brandner would close it out with 6 more free throws on their way to the 63-55 win.
The Hawks are now in sole possession of 2nd place at 5-2 just two games behind Walla Walla. They will travel to the Warriors on Saturday in a big showdown of defensive specialists with tipoff at 2pm.
