Columbia Basin defeated Big Bend 3-0 at home to clinch a spot in the 2023 playoffs.
Caydence Taylor had 20 kills in the effort.
Yajaira Meraz notched 41 assists in support.
Behind the strength of a healthy roster, CBC is playing its best Volleyball down the stretch when it matters. The Hawks roared out early with a 25-11 win in Set 1 with Meraz spreading the ball around to multiple hitters. Basin was also +3 in the service department on the night with multiple aces in the frame (9 total).
After a slow start to Set 2, Taylor got going with 7 kills in the frame while
Meredith Moszeter coming alive with 4 kills of her own. The Hawks went on a 5-1 run to finish off the set capped by an ace from
Kaylie Christopher.
Midway through the 3rd set at 12-11, Big Bend began to commit mistakes allowing CBC to capitalize with a 6-0 run to make it 16-12 and behind Taylor's service, the Hawks scored the final 5 points of the night including 2 aces and another Moszeter kill to finish off the Vikings 25-18.
The win clinches at least the 4-seed in the East. With Yakima losing 3-0 to Wenatchee Valley, Basin could take the 3-seed with another loss by the Yaks in the final games this Friday. CBC will travel to Coeur d'Alene to take on North Idaho in the final regular season match starting at 6pm.
