National JUCO Snow College defeated Columbia Basin 76-67 handing the Hawks their first loss of the season.
Lexie Heath lead all scorers with 19 points with
Kenzi Pedersen scoring 13 from inside.
In their biggest test of the year, CBC took on a national D1 JUCO and took them down to the wire in a slugfest. Snow came out early in a heavy press that caused some problems for the Hawks who were held under 10 points in a quarter for the first time this year. After the 15-7 number in the first, Basin began to respond on offense. Heath and Pedersen each scored 5 in the 2nd frame as
Trinidie Nichols was dishing out assists. CBC cut the lead with a late bucket to 32-28 heading into the half.
The Badgers had a big 3rd quarter as they were able to get some looks at the rim from the dribble drive. As game looked like it could lean heavy towards Snow midway through the fourth, the Hawks began to counter with Pedersen hitting a shot inside while getting a stop on the other end. Heath knocked down a 3 with 3 minutes to go inching the score to 64-60. But a few missed shots and a turnover allowed Snow to ice the game with a handful of free throws and the 76-67 final.
The loss drops CBC to 6-1 on the year. They will head to Longview on Thursday for the Lower Columbia hosted crossover where they will open up against Mt. Hood starting at 5pm.
