Green River defeated CBC in the first Final Four matchup of the weekend 68-52.
Trinidie Nichols lead all scorers with 16 points to go with 12 rebounds and 5 assists.
Kenzi Pedersen added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
Back in their first Final Four since the tournament was last in the Tri-Cities, CBC came out slugging against a long and athletic Green River squad. The Hawks struggled getting their footing early as the turnover bug bit them in the first quarter. Nichols was also saddled with two early fouls in the first that sent her to bench changing the complexion of the game. Once Basin was able to get to the second quarter, they were able to regain their footing on offense while still showing very strong on defense.Â
Pedersen got going inside late in the second quarter as the Hawks were able to score 20 points in the frame but the Gators were able to match their output stride for stride. Outside of halftime, CBC's defense began to put Green River in a corner as the Gators shot just 7 of 19 from the floor in the third but the Hawks were unable to capitalize on their strong outside shooting going just 4-18 from the floor themselves.
Basin was able to cut the lead down to as few as 6 early in the fourth quarter as Nichols began attacking the rim but again, just as they seemed poised to get over the top, shots did not fall their way. Basin shot just 4 of 21 from deep despite many good looks. Despite out-rebounding the Gators 50 to 39, the turnover battle ended up being the difference in the game as Green River sank just enough shots to keep Basin at arm's reach for most of the game.
Columbia Basin finishes their season off at 22-6, a +13 win turnaround from a season ago. They will return 8 out of their 10 players heading into next year which will be sure to feature another strong set of players under Coach Sokaitis.
