Columbia Basin split a double header against the Olympic Rangers to finish off their preseason schedule. Olympic took Game 1 17-3 while the Hawks came back in Game 2 10-1.
With the looming conference schedule coming up on Wednesday, Basin was able to get some final tuning done before taking on Treasure Valley. Eight different Hawk pitcher saw action in Game 1. Walks and timely hitting allowed the Rangers to have a day at the plate to the tune of 17 runs including 10 runs in the 9th.
Hayden Matray and
Will Baker combined for 4 hits to lead the way for CBC who couldn't meet the hit parade by the Rangers.
Game 2 saw Olympic return back to earth as CBC began to take over the game early.
Harper Huang kicked things off for the Hawks in the 1st with a 2-RBI double and eventually scoring on a wild pitch to give the Hawks an early 3-0 lead. Starter
Jace Wessels was spectacular in his 4 innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 6. Matray was dialed in today going 2-5 in the second game with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's in support.
In the 7th,
Brooks Rasmussen singled in a pair of runs to make it 10-1 Basin.
Landon Webb was tasked with closing the door and was able to put Olympic down in order for the 9-inning final.
CBC will open up conference play with Treasure Valley in week 1. The Chukars will travel to Pasco for a Wednesday double-header before CBC returns the trip to Ontario for the second leg on Saturday.
