Columbia Basin splits their final double-header against Wenatchee Valley with a 12-6 win and a 23-13 loss.
Ashlynn Nixon belted her league leading 19th home run to cap a 4-homer day for the sophomore short stop.
Nixon began her day with a seeing-eye 2-RBI single in the first to give the Hawks an early 2-1 lead in Game 1. As
Macao Jackson went for her 16th win of the season, the Hawks were able to give her all the run support she'd need. In the bottom of the second, CBC connected on 3 home runs from
Alexis Blankenship, Nixon and
Harley Raymond propelling them out to a commanding 7-1 lead which proved to be enough for Jackson to take care of business.
Nixon hit her second homer of the game in the third while
Kendra Hart tripled to deep right for 2 RBI's of her own. Hart finished a clean 4-4 at the plate with 3 runs scored in the effort. Wenatchee was able to post 7 on the board but it was not enough as Basin cruised to the solid 12-6 final.
Game 2 was all Knights from the jump. A few CBC miscues lead to an 8-run first inning for Wenatchee who was able to scatter a handful of singles as well. The Hawks were unable to recover despite another multi-homer game from Nixon. The Knights had all the bounces and breaks go their way toward a 23-run effort.
Raymond also added another solo shot to give her two home runs on the day. Basin was able to plate 6 runs in the 5th inning including a 2-rbi double from
Kodi Fraser but the Hawks left the bases loaded needing 3 runs to keep the contest going and falling just short of a comeback.
The split moves CBC to 26-10 on the year (16-6 in East Region play). They will travel to Moses Lake to take on the Big Bend Vikings in a Saturday double-header with first pitch scheduled for 12pm.
