Despite the split on the day, CBC's 10-0 win over Walla Walla clinches the 2-seed in the East and regional host playoff site. Walla Walla held on for a 2-0 win in Game 2 with some good breaks and timely fielding.
Dylan Berry got the ball in the opener needing a win to hand CBC the 2-seed and Berry delivered. The Sophomore starter was on and hot early. He got some run support in the 2nd as Basin erupted for 5 runs on 4 hits and a couple of sacs. With a commanding lead, Berry cruised for 7 innings never being in any serious trouble.Â
The Hawks added 3 more in the 4th with RBIs from
Brooks Rasmussen,
Steven Meier and
Wyatt Lizama. Meier doubled in Rasmussen in the 6th before
Gaven Mattson brought the game to an early close with the 10th run in the 8th.
Game 2 turned into a pitcher's duel as
Cameron Soliz was handed his first loss of the season despite a quality start. CBC could not muster any scoring offense in this one as every time it seemed they were poised to score, a bad break was handed their way. Walla was able to get 3 inning-ending outs on line drives that would have plated runs.
Soliz was dominate through 6 innings allowing just 4 hits on the day and striking out 7. The one blemish came in the 7th as the Warriors were able to capitalize on a bunt that resulted in an error and a walk that loaded the basses.
Landon Webb was tasked with getting out of the bases loaded jam but after plunking the first batter, he surrendered another run on a double play before punching out the last batter. The 2-run inning would be it for both sides on the day.
With the Game 1 win, CBC will be able to rest some starters on Saturday when the travel to Walla Walla to finish off the regular season. As East Regional host, CBC will look at the winner of North #3 and West #4 most likely on Friday. The winner of that game will take on CBC in a best of 3 series with the winner advancing to the NWAC Championships in Longview, Washington.
