Columbia Basin defeated Tacoma 3-1 in their home opener. Jonas Olvera scored 2 goals while Gabriel Delgado added a PK.

Not even 3 minutes into the game, Delgado got loose behind the Tacoma defense before he was tackled during a shot. The tackle resulted in an early PK for the Hawks and Delgado put it away similar to his championship winning PK in the 2022 finals.

The Hawks showed that they have not lost a step in 2023 as they were beautiful with their possessions and played to their strengths. In the 12th minute, Diego Lopez sent a throw-in toward the box that Olvera was able to put a great foot on for the second goal of the day.

Tacoma came right back with a PK of their own in the 15th minute to cut the lead to 1 but CBC was able to shut down the Titans for the rest of the game.

Lopez again connected with Olvera in the 53rd minute, this time on a header off of Lopez's throw-in. That would be all that Basin needed as they were able to hold the momentum in their favor for the rest the match. Freshman keeper Dylan Isasi was strong in goal turning away 5 shots on his way to the win.

CBC moves to 3-0 on the year and will get a week off before they host Wenatchee Valley on September 9th in the region opener.
