Columbia Basin defeated Tacoma 1-0 in the 2023 home opener. Janelly Verduzco scored the lone goal off a set piece from Mya Lee for the game winner.

Despite the 1-0 score, Columbia Basin dominated the match from start to finish. The Hawks controlled the time-of-possession substantially as Tacoma could not find any holes to challenge the defense.

The Hawks outshot the Titans 21-1 including 11 shots on goal. On top of those 11, CBC also peppered the crossbar with 5 different shooters.

While not short on opportunities, CBC was awarded a penalty kick in the 30th minute but Arena McDermott's shot was deflected as the keeper guessed correctly on the low-liner. Coming out of halftime, a new wave of Basin players brought in energy including Mya Lee who was able to set up Verduzco with her team leading 4th goal of the year.

Once the Hawks were on the board, they were able to stay in control of the match for the remaining time missing out on a couple more chances. Alejandra Sanchez sent two beautiful tries that each connected with the middle of the crossbar and did not get a favorable bounce.

Basin moves to 3-0 on the year outscoring their opponents 10-0 on the year. They will have a chance to recover before hosting Wenatchee Valley on Saturday September 9th at home.
