Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla 3-0 at home.
Mya Lee,
Ava Suarez and
Hilda Cortes-Muniz each scored in the winning effort.
With control of the East on line, both teams came in looking for a win to separate from the other. CBC failed to get a win at North Idaho but came out looking to get back to their winning ways. From the jump, the Hawks took it straight to the Warriors who were only able to muster 2 shots on the day.
Early on, both
Emma Haertling and
Jordan McVay each barely missed finding the net for Basin who had 12 shots in the half. Later in the period, it was Lee who hit the crossbar but could not get the shot to drop on the right side of the line leaving the match tied at 0-0 heading into half.
Just outside of the break, Basin wasted no time with Haertling feeding Lee for a deep shot outside the box that sailed into the back corner of the net to give the Hawks the lead. Two minutes later,
Ava Suarez got loose behind the defense and put away the dump from
Janelly Verduzco to make it 2-0.
A weird play in the 71st minute- CBC took a corner kick but a "dangerous play" call was made on Walla Walla just 3 feet shy of the goal line. This foul awarded CBC a free kick just feet from the goal and
Violet Duran fed
Hilda Cortes-Muniz who rammed one home for the third and final goal of the day.
The shutout of Walla Walla puts CBC back in sole possession of 1st place in the East at 5-0-2 (8-0-2 Overall) over the Warriors. They will return to the pitch in Wenatchee to take on the Knights on October 4th.
