Latrell Barker dominated the paint with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Ta'Veus Randle scored 17 in support.
Looking to control the tempo again, the Hawks found themselves in another slugfest, much to their liking. Walla Walla was able to lead early but the stingy Hawk defense was able to keep them in the game. Meanwhile, Barker was active in the paint displaying a full array of moves including a few knock-down 3-pointers. With 7 minutes to go in the first half, Basin put together a run to climb ahead 29-23 but Walla Walla came punching back with a run of their own to take a 2-point lead into half 40-38.
The second half was all CBC on defense. The Hawks were able to hold down the normally good shooting Warriors to just 29 points. a
Jayden Martinez layup with 6 minutes to go gave CBC a 65-64 lead which they would not relinquish. With Barker controlling the paint and Randle scoring on the perimeter, Columbia Basin was able to hold on to the lead for the 74-69 final.
The win moves CBC to 11-5 on the season (3-0 in East) tied for the conference lead. They will get their first taste of road action in the East when they travel to Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday for the 7pm tipoff.
