Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla at home for sole possession over 1st place in the East by score of 72-57.
Kenzi Pedersen lead the way with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Fellow big
Erin Morgan added 14 and 7 of her own.
Always a battle, the Hawks met the Warriors with 1st place on the line. It was Walla Walla who got ahead early with strong defense holding down the CBC back court. Pedersen and Morgan were able to get a few buckets in the post but a poor shooting quarter by both teams had the score at 11-10 Walla Walla. The second quarter saw the Warriors climb to a 24-19 lead until Basin threw on a full court press. The Hawks then went on a 13-0 run to close out the half ahead 34-24.
CBC kept up the pressure in the second half as Nichols and Heath began to insert themselves. A poor outside shooting night for CBC did not end up affecting the game as Pedersen and Morgan continued to score down low keeping the lead above 10 points the rest of the way.
Deep in the 4th with the Warriors chasing, sophomore
Jayauna Keister was able to knock down some big time 3's to stave off any attempts at a comeback gliding into the 72-57 final score. The win bumps CBC to 12-2 (3-0 in the East).Â
