Columbia Basin defeated Blue Mountain at home 94-78 with a big second half effort.
Ta'Veus Randle scored 31 points to go with 7 rebounds while
Javon Handcox added 16 and 10.
A 2-hour foul-laden game couldn't hold down CBC as they were on to win their 5th in a row. Blue Mountain shots lights out from deep in the first half going 7-10 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile the Hawks struggled at times but seemed to be trading 2's for 3's. A big dunk from Barker helped up the lead to 4 with 10 minutes to go but in his celebration was slapped with a technical foul, much to the dismay of Barker and the CBC bench. Blue Mountain came right back with a 16-2 run. Basin was able to grind away and get it back to a 4-point game at half down 45-41.
The second half saw Blue come back to earth as the CBC pressure began to create turnovers. The story of the game, however, was at the free throw line where both teams combined to shoot 62 free throws in the contest (39 in the second half). Both teams struggled to adapt to the quick whistles but it was Randle who used it to his advantage for 24 points in the half (8-11 from the line). Anton Williams lay-up making it 60-58. a 14-2 run lead by Randle helped give the Hawks the cushion they'd need as they were able to sink 17 free throws to finish the game off.
The Hawks find themselves tied atop the East Region with Treasure Valley at 5-0. They will travel to Yakima Valley (4-0) on Wednesday before heading to Moses Lake to take on Big Bend.Â
