Columbia Basin defeated Yakima Valley in straight sets at home on Wednesday.
Kaylie Christopher lead all hitters with 13 kills on 27 attempts.
Camille Collins and
Zuri Reeser added 9 a piece in support.
Fresh off a huge win in Ontario against #3 Treasure Valley, Columbia Basin faced another home test against Yakima and passed with flying colors. With only a 1-game lead over the Yaks, CBC would need a win to take control of the region through the first leg of play. Basin came out strong in Set 1 as Yakima aided with some unforced errors early before Christopher and Reeser got going midway through the set. The Hawks reeled off an 8-1 run to take a commanding 21-15 lead before Collins put the set away with a big kill.
The Yaks opened Set 2 with a 4-0 before Basin was able to break serve. From there, CBC responded with a run of their own to get it back to 8-7. Again, midway through the set, the Hawk offense got going and with an 8-2 run, took a commanding 19-15 lead. The blocking core of
Kambree Baker and Collins were strong all night at the net forcing 19 hitting errors and few timely solo blocks for big points. Reeser put the finishing touch on a 25-19 set win.
Set 3 featured the most entertaining action of the night. CBC came out this time ahead 8-3 but Yakima went on a staggering 15-4 run to take a 5 point lead into a CBC timeout. A much needed timeout it was because Basin came roaring back with a 9-3 run to take the lead back at 22-20. The Yaks tied it up but 3 straight points from the Hawks including an ace from Christopher to seal the deal in the 3-0 victory.
CBC moves to 17-3 on the year (6-0 in the East). They will go on a two week road trip where they will face Spokane and Walla Walla on back-to-back Fridays before returning home on the 23rd to face Big Bend at home.
