Columbia Basin defeated Edmonds in a pair of Sunday non-region games by scores of 6-2 and 17-6. Freshman
Lauryn Krick got the win in Game 1 and closed out Game 2 while going 5-8 at the plate with 7 RBIs.
With their first ranked opponent in their sights, CBC looked to remain undefeated on the weekend. The Tritons struck first to open Game 1 up but from there it was all CBC all day. Krick was strong in the circle scattering 6 hits for just two runs while striking out 5.
Raquel Palmeira tied the game up at 1 with an RBI single in the 2nd before Krick herself tripled in the 3rd to bring home two runs which would be all she needed on the mound. Palmeira blasted her third home run of the weekend in the 4th and again in the 5th doubled home another two runs allowing Krick to finish off Edmonds with the 6-2 final.
GAME 2
The Hawk bats erupted for 17 runs in the shortened Game 2 of the day. Along with Krick's 4-4 performance at the plate, sophomore All-American
Stephanie Bryson went 3-4 with a grand slam in the bottom of the first capping a 9 run inning for Basin. Starter
Sierra Escalera was strong through the first two innings but ran into a little bit of a jam in the 3rd but it was Krick who was able to help her teammate out of the jam and shut the door to the tune of 2 more hitless innings in relief.
After the Tritons cut the lead to 11-6, the Hawks returned the favor with 5 more runs in the 4th off extra base hits from Bryson and catcher
Bree Waldron. The 17 runs was enough to trigger the 8-run rule in the 5th giving CBC their fourth win of the season in as many games. They will look to stay undefeated with Centralia and #3 Mt. Hood coming to town for double-headers next weekend.
