Columbia Basin split day two of the series with Lower Columbia with scores of 1-7 and 4-3. Game 2 starter
Tanner Knoll threw 6.2 innings while allowing just 2 earned runs and a no-decision.
GAME 1
Starter
Dylan Schlenger was removed early in the 2nd inning with forearm tightness as Lower Columbia vaulted to an early 4-0 lead after a 3-run third inning. Basin had 2 hits in the bottom of the first but were unable to capitalize as the Red Devils escaped with an inning-ending double play. From there, the Hawk bats were silenced with
Alex Chamberlain bringing home the only run in the 8th on an RBI single that plated
Ethan Stewart.
Lower Columbia added two insurance runs in the 8th and 9th innings to secure the eventual 7-1 win in Game 1.
GAME 2
Following a quality start in Everett the previous week, Knoll turned in another gem as the freshman held LCC to one run through 6 innings of work. CBC was able to tie it up in the 5th when
Cason Eliptico singled to left scoring
Hagen Bowen. In the 6th, Chamberlain lead off with a double. He was moved over to third and would eventually score on a
Braiden Bond line shot to first base that saw the Devils first baseman steal a hit away. The RBI groundout gave the Hawks their first lead of the day.
A miscue to lead off the 7th lead to 2 LCC runs and the 3-2 lead back in their corner. In the 7th, Lower Columbia lost a ball in the sun helping Bowen reach second base with no outs. Eliptico came through again with a big RBI single to left before
Lance Anderson drove him home with a double of his own pushing Basin back ahead 4-3.
AJ Woodward came out of the bullpen for 2 and a third innings of no-hit ball to go along with 4 strikeouts and was credited with the win as he closed it out in the 9th for the 4-3 win.
The series split pushes the Hawks to 16-5 on the year as they gear up for East Region play and another postseason bid as they travel to Big Bend on Wednesday starting at 1pm.
