Yakima Valley defeated Columbia Basin in an East Region double-header 8-4 and 14-10. Layryn Krick lead the way for the Hawks at the plate with a 5-9 day including 2 home runs.
GAME 1
Krick drove in the opening run of Game 1 on an RBI single but the Yaks came right back with 3 runs in the second inning. A slow day at the plate found Yakima up 8-1 heading into the 6th. Krick again launched a 2-run homer to pull within 5 but CBC was only able to grab one more run in the 7th with
Alexis Blankenship singling in
Bailey Hausenbuiller leading to the 8-4 final. Basin was unable to take full advantage of both late game rallies despite Krick's day at the plate.
GAME 2
Yakima was able to jump ahead again in the second game of the day with another 3-run inning in the third for a 5-3 lead. Krick belted her second homer of the day in the bottom of the frame to inch Basin closer. The Yaks came back with 3 more in the 4th to increase their lead 8-3. CBC answered right back with two more on RBIs from
Stephanie Bryson and Krick.Â
The big inning came in the 6th as the Hawks plated 5 runs on a handful of RBIs from
Bree Waldron,
Anna-Marie Shaffer and
Kaylie Christopher to tie the score up at 10 all. However, Yakima plated 4 more in the top of the 7th as the Hawks were unable to mount one more big inning allowing the Yaks to take the 14-10 final.
CBC remains at #9 in the RPI at 13-16 on the year. They will travel to Walla Walla on Wednesday April 16th for the second leg of their 4-game conference series starting at 2pm.
