Shaffer leads Hawks to win in Game 2 against Knights

Columbia Basin and Wenatchee Valley split a double header in Pasco with the Knights taking Game 1 and CBC coming away with Game 2. Anna-Marie Shaffer got the win in Game 2 with 4.1 innings and 4 earned runs.

GAME 1

The Knights held the Hawks to just one hit in the opening game of the day. CBC had runners at second and third early in the game but were unable to convert with 2 outs. Wenatchee scored 4 in the fourth and 3 in the 5th for the early finish in 5 innings. Raquel Palmeira's lone hit in the second inning could not be converted as the Hawks were just one big hit away but came away empty.

GAME 2

Shaffer turned in 3 scoreless innings to begin the second game of the day. Basin was able to give her plenty of run support early and often. Bree Waldron opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the first with Bailey Hausenbuiller reaching on an error that brought Waldron home. Stephanie Bryson added one in the second on an RBI double for the 3-0 lead.

Lauryn Krick's RBI opened up a 3-run 4th inning with Waldron and Kaylie Christopher each adding RBI's for the 6-0 lead. Shaffer ran into a little bit of trouble in the 5th where her day finished with a few runners on which Wenatchee capitalized on after the pitching change. Krick wasted no time getting 3 runs back with a massive 3-run home run in the 5th, pushing the lead back to 9-5. Bryson, Krick and Palmeira all drove in another to put the game out of reach at 12-5.

Sierra Escalera was able to steer the ship home as she induced a game-ending double-play with the bases loaded to give the Hawks the 12-7 win.

CBC sits at 17-20 on the year and is currently #12 in the RPI. They will travel to North Idaho on Friday where they will resume their suspended game before playing the double-header in Coeur d'Alene. They will then move into Spokane on Saturday for a double-header against the Bigfoot.
